A quick Q&A with Alicia:
Q: What went into your decision to transition over to teach in an online setting?
A lot went into my decision, but at the end of the day, it was an easy decision. There's been such a merger between technology and education that offering my curriculum online was an inevitability. At the beginning, the tools just weren't refined enough to create a productive educational setting. Online just didn't measure up. That's all changed.
Q: Is online as good a setting as in-person?
If done properly, yes, definitely. In fact, there are a number of things that make online a better option.
Q: What are some of those things that make online a better option than in-person classes?
One major advantage is the flexibility it offers students. We don't teach via Zoom, our classes are all on demand. This is great for students because they decide when they'll do class rather than rushing to get to a classroom at a certain time. They can also watch the classes as many times as it takes for them to feel they understand the material.
Reach is another! For years I've had inquiries from people wanting to enroll but they lived too far away. Now rather than being hundreds of miles away from them, I'm on their desk or on their couch. Online also let's them control their learning pace. Not all students learn at the same pace.
Q: What about the cost of tuition?
The tuition for the online course is quite a bit less than the in-person. Online creates different economies which impacts the bottom line. These are passed along to the student.
Q: You've always offered continuing education to working artists, will this be available online or will you focus strictly on your pro class?
We will definitely offer an advanced program. I'm really excited about this because it's so important for makeup artists to continue to learn and perfect their skills. The advanced program will be fabulous! Our team is already working on it.
Are you excited about this online transition?
Oh, yes! I'm very excited about the potential for Palette7. I'm really looking forward to working with other artists to develop this academy as a must for potential artists but also those already in the field.
